The Abstract series pieces all start with a single embroidered tile - the tiles reference anywhere from street art, pop art, and contemporary icons to abstract and natural imagery. Each tile is created first through digitizing (a transfer from drawing to the language of thread) then indiviudally embroidering onto various fabrics. Once the layout and color scheme is designed, the tiles are folded onto individual blocks to then be mounted, creating a diverse canvas of hundreds of indiviudal icons. Wilson often combines various painting and hand-distressing techniques as the final step to create abstract works that are uniquely textural and a medium of their own.
